Cl. 9. She shall detail nurses for operations, and allow no others on duty to be present in the operating room.
Cl. 10. She shall not permit nurses on duty to read, sew, or engage in any conversation likely to distract their attention from duty.
Cl. 11. She shall keep an inventory of all medical and surgical appliances, such as ice bags, air cushions, thermometers, syringes and other instruments in use in the wards, and shall promptly bring to the Superintendent’s office all articles that have become useless or that require repair. Nurses must replace any of the above articles which may have become injured or broken through their neglect.
Cl. 12. She shall see that patients are supplied with the extra diet prescribed. Nurses must report to the Directress of Nurses any irregularity in the preparation or serving of the patients’ food.
ARTICLE XXII.—Nurses.
Clause 1. All nurses shall be engaged by the Committee on Training School, and shall be discharged by this committee for cause, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee, both as to employment and discharge.
Cl. 2. The Directress of Nurses shall regulate the hours of nurses and orderlies.
Cl. 3. The nurses shall receive all orders concerning the medical care of the patients in the ward from the Directress of Nurses, or, in her absence, from the physician in charge, and shall be held responsible for the fulfillment of these orders.
Cl. 4. All nurses shall wear the prescribed uniform while on duty.
Cl. 5. Nurses shall remain in the wards during their hours on duty. No ward shall be left without a nurse in charge.
Cl. 6. Nurses must preserve order in their wards, and see that patients do not loiter about the stairway or lavatories. They shall not send them on errands in or out of the Hospital. They shall attend to the ventilation of the wards, under the direction of the Interne, and shall see that the temperature in
