form: “I, A. B., a candidate for the office of Interne, have carefully read the by-laws and regulations of the Knoxville General Hospital, and I do hereby agree to faithfully comply therewith and to serve on the House Staff for one year in the regular order of promotion.”
Cl. 5. The Interne, accompanied by the Directress of Nurses, shall visit each patient under their charge at least twice daily, and oftener if necessary; the morning visits shall begin between the hours of 8 and 9, and the evening between the hours of 4 and 8. The Interne shall visit the wards between 10 and 11 p. m.
Cl. 6. The Interne shall be in attendance at the Hospital during the visit of the attending physician or surgeon to whom they shall report the condition of the patients since his last visit.
Cl. 7. No member of the House Staff, without permission of the Superintendent, shall absent himself from the Hospital before 6 o’clock in the afternoon, except on Sunday, and then only when the work of the house admits and with special permission of the Superintendent. He shall not absent himself before 8 p. m. for more than one hour, or at any time for more than four hours continuously without the express consent of the Superintendent or President of the Board of Governors.
Cl. 8. No member of the House Staff shall leave the city for a longer absence from the Hospital than provided for in Clause 7, without the special permission of the President of the Board of Governors.
Cl. 9. Vacations may be granted the members of the House Staff for two weeks each year by permission of the attending physician on duty, and with the consent of the President of the Board of Governors.
Cl. 10. No substitute shall be permitted to take the place of any member of the House Staff, unless permission for such substitution shall have first been obtained from the Chairman of the Committee on Examination.
Cl. 11. Members of the House Staff shall record in a book kept for that purpose in the Superintendent’s office the time of their departure from and return to the Hospital.
