ARTICLE XVIII.—The Consulting and Visiting Staff.
Clause 1. The Consulting and Visiting Staff shall consist of twenty-five physicians and surgeons of Knoxville, to be elected by the Board of Governors at the annual meeting, to serve for one year from January 1st following election, in departments as follows: Four Consulting. Four Medicine. Four Surgery. Four Gynaecology. Two Obstetrics. Two Eye, Ear, and Nose. One Diseases of Children. One Pathology. Three Homeopath.
Cl. 2. Following the election of the Consulting and Visiting Staff, the President of the Board of Governors shall appoint from the members of the Consulting Staff a Chief and an Assistant Chief of Staff, the Assistant to discharge the duties of the Chief during his absence or disability.
Cl. 3. The Chief of Staff shall appoint from the members of the Visiting Staff a Secretary and Committees, of three members each, on Examination and on Medical Matters, and the names of such appointees shall be reported by the Secretary of the Consulting and Visiting Staff to the President of the Board of Governors.
Cl. 4. The Chief of Staff shall, at the beginning of each year, designate the periods of service of the members of the Visiting Staff, in such a manner as to give equal time of service to the members in their respective departments.
Cl. 5. The Consulting and Visiting Staff shall hold regular meetings quarterly, and special meetings at any time, when called by the Chief of Staff or by the President of the Board of Governors. A majority of the members shall constitute a quorum.
Cl. 6. The members of the Consulting and Visiting Staff will be expected to give lectures before the Training School, at such times and on such subjects as the Training School Committee may request.
Cl. 7. The Committee on Examination shall examine all applicants for appointment to the House Staff and shall, through the Chief of Staff, report to the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors, those whom competitive examination proves best qualified for appointments; the marks of each applicant for appointment on the House Staff shall be
