Betty Francis Martzin, age 84, a resident of Clinton passed away, Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at NHC in Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Martzin was born May 20, 1935 in the coal mining community of the Lower Windrock Mountain area of Anderson County, TN.
Betty received her nursing degree as part of the last graduating class from Knoxville General Hospital in 1956. She was a registered nurse and retired from Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Oliver Springs Historical Society. Betty enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, crafts and most importantly her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Mack Hackworth and Bessie Hackworth and by a brother, Billie Hackworth.
Betty is survived by her husband, George Martzin; by sons: Vernon George Martzin and wife, Tammy, John Richard Martzin and wife, Faith, William Egmont Martzin, and wife, Beth; by grandchildren: Anna Tallman, Melissa Pelaez, Alora Stallard, Nina Summerlin, James Martzin, and Lydia Martzin, Aaron Martzin, Elizabeth Martzin, Stephen Heisler; by great-grandchildren: Trinity Tallman, Xander Tallman, Madison Tallman, Adeena Pelaez, Nikolai Pelaez, Amaya Pelaez, Eden Stallard, Lucien Stallard, Pearl Summerlin, Sawyer Summerlin and George Nolan Summerlin.
She is also survived by brothers: Johnny Hackworth, Ralph Hackworth, and Herman Hackworth.
The family will receive friends, Friday, January 17, 2020, between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm at Premier Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. The funeral will follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Minister Clint Andrews officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 11:00 am at Oliver Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Oliver Springs Historical Society 301 Kingston Avenue Oliver Springs, TN 37840.
