Marjorie Newberry Kerley, Class of 1947
Marjorie Newberry Kerley, age 92, of South Knoxville, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017, surrounded by family. She was a member of Graystone Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by husband, Joe Kerley; parents James and Eva Newberry; siblings Harold, Tom, and Ronald Newberry; Ola Galandis, and Alma Drinnon.
Marjorie is survived by daughters, Jan East and Teri Rowles; grandchildren: Ben, Shaun, and Kara (Jill); eight great-grandchildren: Landon, Joseph, Sophia, Max, Hudson, Audrey, Penny, and Archer; siblings JD, Sybil, Chuck, and Phillip; many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Becky and Alan.
Family will receive friends on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 pm. Family and friends will meet at Berry Funeral Home on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 1:15 pm to go in procession to Woodlawn Cemetery for a 2:00 pm interment service. Marjorie’s obituary doesn’t include several facts that should be remembered. She was born Aug 19, 1925, in Clarkrange, Tennessee. Marjorie’s sister, Ola, was in the KGH Class of 1944. Their mother was a niece of U. S. Senator Cordell Hull.
Marjorie was a member of the U. S. Cadet Nurse Corps. She completed the program on June 1, 1947.
Marjorie was a lovely spirit, who was active and engaging when talking about a variety of subjects. She attended the opening of the KGH exhibit at the Museum at Mountain Home with a group of alumnae and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.
