Margaret Elizabeth Dix Barnes, Class of 1944
Margaret Dix Barnes of Daytona was born in 1921 in Rural Retreat, VA, and graduated at Tennessee High School in Bristol. Then went on to attend Knoxville General Hospital of [sic] nursing and graduated as a registered nurse. Her nursing career included Bristol Memorial Hospital, Veterans Administration Hospital in Mountain Home, Tenn. and then moved to Daytona Beach. She was employed by Halifax Hospital Medical Center as Assistant Director of Nursing from 1955-1982 upon which she retired and lived in Port Orange with her now deceased dearly devoted husband Rex L. Barnes.
She was a member for 35 years of First Methodist Church on Bay St. downtown. She served on several church committees until the closure of that church and became a member of Covenant United Methodist. She was survived by her beloved devoted son and his wife Jeffrey and Pauline. Margaret had 2 devoted grandsons Charlie and Michael Sr. and their wives Lisa and Stacy, respectfully. She also had 5 great grandchildren, Shawn, Cassie, Michael Jr., Nicholas, and Brayden and one great-great- granddaughter Amelia. Margaret will be buried next to her husband in the Veterans National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
