Hilda “Terry” Pinckney Pitts (Class of 1954)
Hilda “Terry” Pickney Pitts, 84, of Fredericksburg, VA, formerly of Martinsville, VA, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born on February 1, 1933, in Winchester, Tennessee, to the late Clara Sheppard Pickney and Walter Pickney. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Herman Pickney.
Dr. Pitts was a nursing instructor for many years at Patrick Henry Community College, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Averett College.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clyde E. “Whitey” Pitts, daughters, Kristy Pitts of Fredericksburg, VA, Karen Crowe and husband Ed Crowe of Phoenix, AZ, and Kathy Dorough and husband Lee Dorough of Covington, GA; sister, Dorris Tucker and husband Howard Tucker of Powder Springs, GA, and brother, William Pickney and wife Connie Pickney of Winchester, TN. She is survived by two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Clyde Edward Lee “Whitey” Pitts, 88, of Fredericksburg, VA, formerly of Martinsville, VA, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Falls Run Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on December 4, 1928, in Rainbow Springs, North Carolina, to the late Edith Danielson Pitts and Patrick Henry Pitts. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Pickney “Terry” Pitts.
Mr. Pitts was an associate professor of history for many years at Patrick Henry Community College. He also served honorably in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Pitts is survived by his daughters, Kathy Dorough and husband Lee Dorough of Covington, GA, Karen Crowe and husband Ed Crowe of Phoenix, AZ, and Kristy Pitts of Fredericksburg, VA; sister-in-law, Dorris Tucker and husband Howard Tucker of Powder Springs, GA; brother-in-law, William Pickney and wife Connie Pickney of Winchester, TN. His is survived by two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren on the way.
A memorial service will be held for both Whitey and Terry on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel with Dwight Christenbury officiating. The family will receive friends and family on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
Donations may be made to the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County, 132 Joseph Martin Hwy., Martinsville, VA 24112 in honor of Mr. Pitts.
