Five Generations of Nursing Tradition Include KGH
Cortney Nichole “Nikki” Lowe earned her BSN from Knoxville’s South College and received her traditional nursing pin on March 24, 2017. As a surprise, Nikki’s three R.N. great-aunts pinned her — a slight break from the usual tradition of instructor-presented pins.
In the photo above, JoElla Tipton McCall (KGH Class of 1954), center, and Mary McCall McNamara (KGH Class of 1954) are presenting Nikki with her pin. The tablet at far left in the photo allowed Martha McCall King (KGH Class of 1955) to participate from her home in Florida.
Nikki’s great-grandmother was Madeline Boyer McCall (KGH Class of 1924). Madeline’s mother started the nursing tradition by providing community health care and midwifery services in rural Anderson County, Tennessee.
