Ernestine Lorine Sparks Goggins, Class of 1955
Funeral services for Mrs. Ernestine (Ernie) Lorine Goggins, 80, of Monterey, will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Monterey Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery. Bro. Tim Singleton will officiate.
Mrs. Goggins passed away Jan. 12, 2014, in Standing Stone Care and Rehab Center in Monterey, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Nov. 24, 1933, in Battle Creek, MI, to the late Oren and Laura Phifer Sparks.
She was a registered nurse receiving her RN degree from Knoxville General Hospital-University of Tennessee.
As a minister’s wife and career Navy wife, Mrs. Goggins served with her husband in several locations. She served as a Red Cross nurse in the Philippines for two years and worked at hospitals in California, Nebraska and Texas. After she and her husband returned to Tennessee, she worked at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, Livingston Regional Hospital and Overton County Nursing Home. She served as director of nursing at Standing Stone Health Care in Monterey and Life Care Center in Crossville.
She was a nursing instructor for Tennessee Technology Center in Crossville for several years.
Mrs. Goggins was a member of Monterey Church of Christ and a life-time member and past-president of VFW Post 6277 Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Rich.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Glen Goggins (whom she married July 25, 1955 in Hernando, MS); daughter, Melissa Williams of Cookeville; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Michelle Goggins of Virginia Beach, VA; three grandchildren, Vanessa (Russell) Holster, Whitney Greenup and Alec Williams; great-granddaughter, Madison; brother, Eugene Manwarren of Middleburg, FL; and sister, Ethel Packard of Battle Creek, MI.
Pallbearers will be Archie Ray, John Jernigan, Dan Varbel, Jack Howard, Jeff Gaw and Charles Harris.
Mrs. Goggins’ family will receive friends today from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Horner Funeral Home, and Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
