Barbara Christine Dean Christenberry (Class of 1955)
Barbara Christine Dean Christenberry, of Knoxville, passed into the loving arms of her Savior Wednesday, August 17, 2016.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Knoxville, where she devoted many years to the choir. Chris was a Registered Nurse and a proud member of the last graduating class (1955) of the Knoxville General Hospital where she served as Treasurer of the Alumni Association. She was member of the order of the Eastern Star, past Vice- President of the Ossoli Circle; Daughters of the American Revolution; former President of the Knoxville Symphony League; past President of the Knoxville Rose Society as well as the local consulting Rosarian for the American Rose Society; the Sweet Adelines, League of Women Voters and Soloist of the Knoxville Women’s Chorus.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dexter Albert Christenberry, Sr.; son, Dexter Albert Christenberry, Jr.; sons-in-law, Robert Baker Latta, Jr. and Robert Henry Waddell, Jr. Chris is survived by her loving children, Diane Latta; Lynn Waddell; and Karen (William) Stimming; Linda Christenberry; Jay G. Christenberry; Debra Christenberry; Stuart Christenberry, Grandchildren, Forest Waddell, Laura (Brent) Christian, Russell Waddell, Tyler Waddell, Nichole Latta, Robert Baker Latta, III and Christopher Stimming; several nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to count.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held 2:00 PM Monday at First Baptist Church, Knoxville with a reception to follow in Trentham Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Knoxville Symphony League, P.O. Box 360, Knoxville, TN 37901. Family and friends will meet by 1:30 PM Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel and proceed to Highland Memorial Cemetery for Interment. Online condolences may be sent to www.rosemortuary.com
