Charles Frank George, MD
GEORGE, DR. CHARLES FRANK – age 86, passed away Sunday, April 05, 2009, at the Ben Atchley State Veteran’s Home in Knoxville. He was born September 24, 1922, in Morristown to the late Frank and Maude Miller George. His beloved wife of 50 years, Yvonne Crane George, preceded him in death on December 4, 2008. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Morristown. Dr. George was a graduate of Morristown High School, Maryville College, Maryville, TN and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, TN. He completed his internship and residency at the former Knoxville General Hospital. From 1947 to 1949 he served in the US Army Medical Corps as a Captain in the 74th Field Artillery Battalion, West Germany. Before accepting his appointment as a college physician to the University of Tennessee Student Health Services and Hospital, he served five years as house physician at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. He was also in family practice for a number of years in Wise, Virginia and Morristown, TN. After his retirement from the University of Tennessee, he and his wife resided in Morristown. He is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Payne of Morristown; three grandsons, Joshua and Jason Payne of Cookeville, TN and Justin Payne, USMC, North Carolina; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kermit Crane and Ralph and Ruth Crane of Kingsport, TN., Deszmer Pollock of Knoxville, JoAnn and Francis Underwood of Jacksboro, TN, and several cousins. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Stetzer Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Family will receive friends fro m 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Jarnagin Cemetery. Arrangements by Stetzer Funeral Home, Morristown, TN
