1937 “Sure Cure for Alcoholism” from a KGH Nurse
A nurse now married and living in Fountain City laughs yet at how she cured two patients in a General Hospital men’s ward of drinking her rubbing alcohol.
She’d fill the bottles each night and next morning they’d be empty. Finally another patient told her the two men were drinking the alcohol.
She arranged with the druggist to dope the alcohol with ipecac.
“Say, did we have two sick patients,” says this nurse. “But, they tried to keep it to themselves, and we didn’t let on that we knew what was wrong. … My alcohol didn’t disappear after that.”
